Why is CPR performed?

When a person is unconscious and not breathing for a few minutes, they need CPR. Is the purpose of CPR to restart the heart? Is it to keep the person’s brain alive? Is it to move the blood around the body? All of these may be true. The last two questions are more likely the reasons – keep the brain alive by moving blood around the body. CPR satisfies the mechanical needs of the heart.
